Runes
Runes are the 24 letters of the Elder Futhark, the oldest runic alphabet. In the game, they go into item sockets just like gems, and grant bonuses that depend on where they are socketed: in a weapon, in armor or in jewelry.
- On its own, a rune grants a small bonus (gold, Strength, Fire damage, Life per Hit…).
- Together, in the right order, runes form a runeword that transforms the item.
- There are three rarity bands, one for each ætt (group of eight runes) of the Futhark: low (Freyr’s ætt), mid (Hagal’s ætt) and high (Tyr’s ætt). High-band runes grant bigger bonuses and are rarer.
- With the Völva, 3 runes of the same band become 1 random rune of the next band (250 gold from low to mid, and 1,200 from mid to high) beta.
- The Merchant sells some low-band runes.
