Levels and points

The hero goes from level 1 to 60 at an idle game’s pace: the hero clears the stage with ease, but each level takes several expeditions, and more and more of them beta. The curve rises steadily, without exploding exponentially:

Milestone Experience
Level 1 to 2 140
Level 10 to 11 ~111 thousand
Level 15 to 16 ~360 thousand
Total up to level 30 ~23 million
Level 59 to 60 alone ~36 million

Experience comes from kills; higher-level monsters are worth more. “XP gained” affixes and the Ansuz and Ingwaz runes (socketed in jewelry) increase experience.

An expedition to the Fjords of Hrafnvik has around 80 kills and takes about 5 minutes. With a new character, moving up a difficulty as soon as your level enters the next bracket beta:

Level Expeditions (total) Playtime Where
4 — Berserker Fury 1 (the first victory) ~5 min Normal
6 — Steel Whirlwind 3 ~15 min Normal
8 — tree tier 1 5 ~25 min Normal
10 — Tyr’s Leap 8 ~40 min Normal
15 — end of Normal ~20 ~1.7 h Normal
30 ~120 ~10 h Heroic
45 ~360 ~30 h Mythic
60 ~830 ~70 h Ragnarök

At level 15 a level takes ~3 expeditions; at 30, ~11; at 59, ~40.

Replaying a difficulty below your level still pays off, but less: above the bracket’s cap (for example, level 20 on Normal, where monsters stay at 15), experience drops 7.5% per level above, down to a minimum of 25%. At level 20, a level takes ~14 expeditions on Normal versus ~5 on Heroic. Below the bracket, monsters are worth at most as much as if they were 3 levels above the hero.

  • +14 life and +1.5 mana base.
  • +1 talent point (starting at level 3), for the tree.
  • Higher-level items become equippable (required level = item level − 4).
